The Tirurangadi Yatheem Khana was formally started functioning on 11th Dec. 1943 with 114 orphans sheltered in Noorul Islam Madrasa and adjacent houses. Since then it has steadily grown into a big socio-cultural complex with a record of excellent service to the community and the nation.

The starting of Tirurangadi Yatheem Khana, the biggest orphanage of this kind in South India, was indeed an epoch making incident in the history of Kerala. Many poor, down- trodden and unsheltered children hailing from various parts of Kerala and even from outside were looked after with love and affection and brought up with all amenities of life. The vision of its founding fathers is to mould our youngsters to strong individuals with democratic values and patriotism. We strive, to inculcate good values and excellent ambitions in our students which will enable them to face the challenges and realities of life and lead the life of responsible citizens of the country. By the grace of the Almighty and the unfailing support of the generous public, Tirurangadi Yatheem Khana has been able to gain remarkable achievements by producing great personalities who have made long lasting impress in the diverse spheres of life. Among whom there are social reformers, philosophers, doctors, engineers, teachers and other professionals.

Tirurangadi Yatheem Khana has now on its rolls 210 inmates including 145 girls. There are 46 members on the staff.

The boys and girls live in separate well furnished hostel buildings with all facilities in hygienic atmosphere, and are brought up and trained in the Islamic way of life.

There are 18 members in the staff for the supervision of the inmates and for the office administration. There are 8 cooks, 4 members in security staff arid 2 attendants in charge of very small children, and 14 tutors for giving special tuition to school-going and college-going students of the orphanage.

More than seventy lakhs of rupees is spent every year for the upkeep of the orphans by way of their food, clothing, education, medical treatment etc. Besides, Orphanage Committee gives gold ornaments of 5 sovereign each as wedding to orphan girl inmates of the orphanage

when marriage tie is observed at the orphanage. A good amount of rupees is spent every year in this way also.
